Zack Sorman is an experienced and passionate litigator with experience at every step of complex commercial litigation matters from initial assessment to final appeal.
Zack’s experience includes matters related to patent litigation, employment disputes, trade secret litigation, and executive compensation disputes.
He has experience in both Illinois state and federal court litigation matters, arbitrations, and appeals.
Highlighted Experience:
- In re Sensipar® Patent Litigation: crafted and executed case strategy in successful defense against claims of literal patent infringement and infringement under the doctrine of equivalents. Led drafting of appellate brief until a favorable settlement was reached prior to oral argument.
- In re: NuvaRing® Patent Litigation: worked closely with experts in formulation, gynecology, and economics to defend against patent infringement claims related to an intravaginal contraceptive. After a bench trial, the patent-in-suit was found invalid as obvious.
- Jeansonne v. Generation Mortgage: obtained dismissal with prejudice for claims alleging wrongful foreclosure on a reverse mortgage. Dismissal affirmed on appeal to the Fifth Circuit without argument.
- Alternative Dispute Resolution Experience: successfully resolved trade secret misappropriation claims and employment-related disputes through mediations and confidential arbitrations including enforcement of post-employment restrictions, allegations of trade secret misappropriation by former employees hired by a direct competitor, and allegations of improper trade secret disclosure via patent applications by a party to a joint venture.
