A new lawsuit was filed against Northwestern University and the school’s former head baseball coach on Monday, August 14, 2023. Attorneys for the plaintiffs announced that the lawsuit claims staff members were retaliated against and demoted from their positions after reporting NCAA violations.
Three former staff members of Northwestern University’s baseball program are filing a lawsuit against the university and recently-fired head baseball coach Jim Foster, claiming there was harassment, bullying, and abuse within the program under Foster.
Former members of Northwestern University’s baseball coaching staff filed a lawsuit against the school. The allegations in the lawsuit allege retaliatory discharge, harassment, bullying and abuse at the baseball program.
Three former Northwestern baseball staffers filed a lawsuit against the school for retaliatory discharge, harassment, bullying and abuse by former baseball coach Jim Foster. “The prejudicial and biased attitude of the former head coach that also included the mismanagement of the players and staff ultimately led to Foster’s firing, something that should have been done months ago,” said Christopher J. Esbrook, attorney for the Plaintiffs. “Northwestern had a responsibility to the players as well as to its staff to provide a safe and secure working environment.”
Former Northwestern baseball staff members filed a lawsuit against the university. The allegations in the lawsuit allege retaliatory discharge, harassment, bullying and abuse at the baseball program that led to the demotion and ultimate non-renewal of the contracts of two of Northwestern’s assistant baseball coaches, Dustin (Dusty) Napoleon, Jonathan (Jon) Strauss, and its Director of Baseball Operations, Matthew (Chris) Beacom.
“We think that discovery is going to show that there is a there is long evidence that coach Foster engaged in this conduct in prior jobs, and that Northwestern failed to do the appropriate diligence on coach Foster before they hired him,” said attorney, Chris Esbrook. “Honestly, this was not a mystery that coach Foster engaged in this kind of behavior. If Northwestern was doing its job, it should have known this, and it shouldn’t have hired him and it shouldn’t have put Mr. Beacom and his colleagues in this kind of position.”
Three former staff members with Northwestern University’s baseball program filed a lawsuit the school and additional parties. “Honestly, this was not a mystery that Coach Foster engaged in this kind of behavior,” said the plaintiffs’ attorney, Chris Esbrook. “If Northwestern was doing its job, it should have known this and it shouldn’t have hired him and it shouldn’t have put Mr. Beacom and his colleagues in this kind of position.”

Two former assistant baseball coaches and the director of baseball operations at Northwestern University filed a lawsuit against the school and several additional parties. “Chris [Beacom], Jon [Strauss], and Dusty [Napoleon] were trying to do the right thing as whistleblowers in telling the school of the head coach’s NCAA violations and a bullying attitude that led to the potential harm of baseball players,” Chris Esbrook, attorney representing the Plaintiffs, said.
A lawsuit was filed on Monday, August 14, 2023 against Northwestern University, its former head baseball coach, and various members of its administration.
